Tucked away in a quiet area in close vicinity of the Galle Fort, Unawatuna beach and Rumassala, Kapu Gedara is a family home turned holiday bungalow embodying a serene atmosphere, keeping with its simple country style.

Translating to “Cotton House” in Sinhala, the bungalow is situated in Magalle, which is renowned for its production of beeralu lace weaving. The art of weaving lace was introduced to the area by the Dutch upon their settling in Sri Lanka. As it so happens, the gardens at Kapu Gedara once housed several cotton trees, keeping to its name.

A heritage villa of over 100 years old, consisting of twin houses, Kapu Gedara’s style of architecture, furniture and villa artefacts date back to yesteryear and has been carefully restored with the objective of guests experiencing a similar style of living.

The house consists of two units, the ground floor unit featuring three rooms with attached bathrooms, in addition to pantry facilities, while the upper floor unit features two rooms with a shared bathroom, common sitting area, dining area and pantry facilities. It is recommended for small families consisting of around five members. Cement floors and clay tiles cool your feet as soft breezes waft into the house from the winding Dutch verandahs, adding to the tranquility guests come in search of.

Both homes are ideal for families or large groups of friends looking to enjoy a peaceful holiday, amidst excursions to the beach which is a mere three minute walk away, shopping and dining in the Galle Fort, or simply exploring the south of Sri Lanka. Additionally, guests can rejuvenate themselves in the expansive swimming pool, which also includes a small pool suitable for children to play and swim in. Take a walk amidst the lush greenery in the garden at Kapu Gedara, and breathe in the fresh country air. The garden is easily accessible to both units of the house.

Guests are served a typical Sri Lankan breakfast, prepared fresh by Kapu Gedara’s chef. Should you require lunch and dinner, informing the staff ahead of mealtimes is advisable.

We welcome you to stay with us, enjoy a holiday in an environment taking you back to yesteryear, and to revel in the simplistic living at Kapu Gedara.
